This quick how-to shows you just how easy it is to make t-shirts with Cricut.
Step 1
To design from scratch, click “New Project” on the home page of Cricut Design Space.
Step 2
Once on the canvas, on the left-hand navigation bar, you’ll see an option for “text.” Click that button. A text box will pop open for you to add text.
Step 3
If you’d like to change the font, click the dropdown menu at the top of the screen that says, “font.”
Step 4
You’ll now be able to search through the hundreds of fonts available in the Cricut library.
Step 5
Now comes the fun part. On the Cricut Design Space Desktop App, you can curve text. Select your text and then click the “Curve” option at the top of the screen. A slider bar will appear allowing you to adjust the curve of the text.
Step 7
Once cut, unload your material and remove the excess iron-on from around the letters. We call this process, “weeding.”

Getting started
To get started, you need a Cricut cut machine. Your Cricut will be able to cut through Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV) and prepare the design for being put on a shirt. Make sure you have downloaded Cricut Design Space on your PC or laptop. Instructions to set up your account will be in your Cricut box.
Choosing materials
For making shirts with Cricut and Cricut Design Space, you will need to choose Heat Transfer Vinyl for your vinyl option. There are other vinyl types available, such as permanent vinyl, but you will only need Heat Transfer Vinyl for shirt projects.
Choosing or creating your SVG
To get started, choose or create your SVG. You can choose and download a free SVG here. Or you can create your own SVG using fonts and Cricut Design Space. To create an SVG in Cricut Design Space, download a font. You can find lots of fonts here, free fonts available here, or choose print fonts for their hand-lettered design.

Tips and tricks
Do not over press or press longer than 15 seconds. This will cause the vinyl to melt, and the adhesive will not stick to your shirt.
Step One: Prep your Shirt
First, you need to wash and dry your shirt! This is a really important step that you don’t want to skip. The vinyl may not hold onto the shirt correctly if it hasn’t been washed ahead of time, so take the extra few minutes to get this done before you get started.
Step Three: Cut Vinyl
After you’ve made your design decision and got everything set up in Design Space, you’re ready to cut the vinyl and get started.
Step Four: Weed Vinyl Design
With everything cut out, it’s time to clean up the vinyl a bit so that you’re ready to transfer it on.
