I know this question has been posted before and I have viewed the resources on the pinned posts. I am new to alchemy and would like advanced practitioners opinions on the top three books that you would recommend for a novice. I started the Kybalion and read the Alchemical Catechism but they haven’t provided the understanding I thought they would.

I am thinking about buying a retort for my alchemical pursuits. Would I benefit putting the receiving flask in cool ice water if I was gonna do a water bath for herbal alchemy. I hear it encourages condensation, but I could be wrong. I can not use alcohol sadly due to personal reasons, but I was gonna use water instead to extract the essence.
