Do BCI joists need blocking?
It seems that most new houses around here use the 9-1/2″ deep x 1-1/2″ wide joist, 16″ o.c. According to BCI's literature, one should use blocking below any load-bearing walls running perpendicular to the joists.
Do I need blocking between I-joists?
Engineered I-joists can span long distances to make a flat and solid subfloor. Tying the joists together with blocking makes the floor even stronger and stiffer. So one of the last things that need to be done before sheathing the deck is to fill in with joist blocking.
Can I use I joist for deck?
Yes, you can use I-joists and LVLs to build a deck, as long as you carefully waterproof the framing.
How far can a 11 7 8 BCI span?
I'm using 11 7/8″ I josits. The span that they must span is of course 26ft 6″ (this span includes the foundation wall, outside to outside).
How far can you span with I joist?
Span refers to the length of the I-joist. The L/480 table with a 40 per square foot live load and a 20 per square foot dead load with a depth of 11 7/8 inches will give you spans according to joint weight. With these factors, the lightest joist will have a maximum span of 17 feet, 8 inches.
What are I joist used for?
roof framingI-joists are used extensively in residential floor and roof framing. They are ideal for long spans, including continuous spans over intermediate supports. Because I-joists are straight and true, it's easier for builders to avoid crowning and maintain a level framing surface.

BC Calc
BC Calc ® performs engineering analysis to help our customers size beams, joists, columns, studs and tall walls for their building projects. It is simple to use, yet flexible enough to analyze a variety of common applications. The user enters the member geometry, adds loads, holes and other relevant data and then selects a product for analysis.
How to avoid problems during I-joist installation?
To avoid these problems during installation, determine hole locations during the design phase. If that best-case scenario is not possible, ensure your installers verify hole placements before cutting. Consult with hole charts from your I-joist manufacturer or with your manufacturer directly for direction, or coordinate with the architect or dealer who can run calculations and determine precise placement.
What is Trus Joist?
Engineered to provide strength and consistency, Weyerhaeuser’s Trus Joist ® TJI ® joists are one of the most fundamental components of a solid, high-performance floor system. And with their light weight and long lengths, TJI joists are faster and easier to install than traditional framing, which can save time and money.
What is BCI Group 24?
Battery products in BCI Group 24 are mainly general-purpose batteries that can be found in applications such as large UPS systems, medical and security equipment, wheelchairs, automobiles, and industrial machinery. Typically, deep cycle batteries are used for deep cycle standby applications and for float.
What is a BCI 35 battery?
Lead-acid batteries of the BCI Group 35 are very popular, commonly used in both starting and dual-purpose applications, for example, in cars, trucks, and RVs. Batteries, especially dual-purpose and deep-cycle batteries, are used for a variety of applications, including backup batteries for security systems, wheelchair batteries and medical batteries for off-the-grid use. BCI Group 35 batteries are mostly Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) Sealed Lead Acid batteries. However, lithium iron phosphate batteries are slowly entering the market at least for deep cycle applications.
