NOTE: Katrina was a terrible disaster, but it accomplished one good thing, imo. It caused President Bush and the Republicans to realize FEMA is an important part of the federal government, and this is why the agency is still around today. On the other hand, presidents, senators and congressmen are still pilfering funds from FEMA, and I still hear some law makers say they would like to do away with FEMA as a way to save money, a huge mistake if this ever occurs.
