What is a P&ID diagram in civil engineering?

1. What is P&ID? Abbreviated as P&ID, a piping and instrumentation diagram is an articulate drawing of a processing plan that entails the piping and process equipment with its instrumentation and control machinery. It displays the piping and associated parts of a physical process flow.

Why do we need P&ID drawings?

To maintain and modify a process effectively, you need a P&ID graphical representation. It provides the foundation for the development of system control blueprints, such as Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOS), during the design stage. Furthermore, P&ID is crucial in facilitating the designing of: 5. P&ID Drawings Use Cases

What are piping P&ID symbols?

Piping P&ID symbols represent the equipment that transports fluid substances. There are multiple types of pipes that make them eligible for a separate category. It can be simple, multi-line, separators, connectors, end caps, flanges, reducers, and coupling. The list of piping symbols is as follows. Click on the image to edit.

What do the colors in a P&ID mean?

In P&IDs, colors are not used effectively to explain a process. Thus trying to decipher the meaning of the color used in the layout can be confusing and misleading. Vaguely defined since the documentation is a different entity and separate from the diagram. The nitty-gritty details of the process are in the vendor specifications or datasheets.

I guess this is the right forum to ask I cannot find anywhere else the meaning for the P/ID abreviation FE, (for the ones that dont know p&id is a Process and Instrument Diagram that ilustrates symbology of piping lines and general layout for the projects), I am currently modifying some P&IDs and I got across a symbol FE, any ideas of waht does it mean? I know for example that PI is a Pressure Indicator a PT is a Pressure Trasnmitter a FI is a Flow Indicator and TT Temperature Trasnmitter but waht is a FE? it indicates that it is mounted between flanges and not with a coupling like the usual indicators..

Why Use Abbreviations and Symbols in Engineering Drawings

A good design drawing can indicate all the details needed to produce a mechanical CNC milling part in an easy way. Because there is no large space on a drawing to contain all the text to illustrate the image, abbreviations, and symbols are often used in engineering drawings to communicate the characteristics of the product to be manufactured.

Common Engineering Drawing Abbreviations

The technical engineering drawing abbreviations we outline here are the terms used in the manufacturing and inspection of parts and assemblies. You can find the list of common engineering drawing abbreviations.

Engineering Drawing Symbols

Basic types of symbols used in engineering drawings are countersink, counterbore, spotface, depth, radius, and diameter. Here are more commonly used engineering drawing symbols and design elements as below. You can also check out the GD&T symbols and terms on our site.
