The Static Air Loss test is designed to detect leaks and make sure that there is no air in the spring brake chambers. When testing the air tanks, the P.S.I can't increase by more than 2 P.S.I. If it does, this means the bus has failed the static air test. The test begins by applying the spring brake, then monitoring the air tank gauges for one minute. We demonstrate that the needle on the gauge stays static with no movement. This means there is no air loss from the air tanks.

Static Leakage Test
With a basically fully-charged air system (within the effective operating range for the compressor), turn off the engine, release all brakes, and let the system settle (air gauge needle stops moving). Time for 1 minute. The air pressure should not drop more than: 2 psi for single vehicles.

What is static brake test on school bus?

STATIC TEST. If the vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission, place the vehicle in park or neutral ensuring that the vehicle will not move when the parking brake is released. Stop the engine, and with the service brake released and the parking brake applied, check the pressure gauge(s) for one (1) minute.

What is the difference between a static leakage test and a applied leakage test?

the applied test checks for air leaks in the lines while the static test checks for airl leaks in the tanks.

How long do you hold the brake pedal to perform a static air leak test?

Step on the brake and hold the pedal down for one minute. There should be no more than 3 psi of air loss. Listen for any possible leaks. TEST 3: Service brake warning system test.

What is the 7 step air brake test?

The Seven-Step Air Brake check is designed to test the governor cut-in and cut-out pressures, air pressure leakage, warning buzzer, brake valves and air pressure rebuild rates. Brakes off means the yellow and/or red valve is pushed in (on = valve out).

How much static pressure is required before doing a leak test?

Preliminary pneumatic test: a preliminary test using air at no more than 170 kPa (25 psi) gage pressure may be made prior to hydrostatic or pneumatic testing to locate major leaks. Examination for leaks: a leak test shall be maintained for at least 10 minutes, and all joints and connections shall be examined for leaks.

Is an air leak a dot violation?

ANSWER: When a vehicle has an air leak at a proper connection, or at an undetermined location and the vehicle passes the CVSA OOSC air loss rate test, inspectors will record a violation for an air leak on the inspection report.

What are the 2 main leak detection tests called?

The most commonly used leak test methods are underwater bubble test, bubble soap paint, pressure and vacuum decay, and tracer gas detectors (halogen, helium and hydrogen).

What are the two most common leak detection tests?

The two most common methods include pressure decay testing and rate of rise testing. In pressure decay testing a known pressure is applied to a component, and pressure is monitored over time to determine pressure decay. The pressure as a function of time can be used to determine the leak rate.

What is the difference between a static and dynamic leak?

Here the term dynamic refers to fluid motion along the core surface and static refers to the lack of motion along the core surface. The validity of the static leak-off test is often questioned.

What is the difference between hydro test and leak test?

Hydrostatic Testing, also called leak testing and pressure testing, helps evaluate the integrity of vessels that are used under pressure. The hydrostatic test can locate leaks, verify performance and confirm the strength and durability of the pressure vessels that undergo testing.

How much pressure should the spring brake valve be on a tractor?

Continuing to fan off the air pressure with the brake pedal and the engine off, check for the tractor protection valve closing at 20-40 pounds.
