An axon, or nerve fiber, is a long, slender projection of a nerve cell, or neuron, in vertebrates, that typically conducts electrical impulses known as action potentials away from the nerve cell body. The function of the axon is to transmit information to different neurons, muscles, and glands. In certain sensory neurons, such as those for touch and warmth, the axons are called afferent nerve fibers and th…

Neurotransmitter
Neurotransmitters are endogenous chemicals that enable neurotransmission. It is a type of chemical messenger which transmits signals across a chemical synapse, such as a neuromuscular junction, from one neuron to another "target" neuron, muscle cell, or gland cell. Neurotransmitt…

Is a light bulb part of the pre-synaptic or post synaptic circuit?
Mar 13, 2022 · It is the synaptic end bulb of the motor neuron that comprises the nervous system component of the neuromuscular junction. The muscular component is a region of the muscle fiber referred to as the motor end plate. Between the synaptic end bulbs of the neuron and the cell membrane of the muscle fiber (the sarcolemma) lies a space known as the synaptic cleft, …
What is synaptic ending?
(ak'son tĕr'mi-nălz) The somewhat enlarged, often club-shaped endings by which axons make synaptic contacts with other nerve cells or with effector cells (muscle or gland cells). Axon terminals contain neurotransmitters of various kinds, sometimes more than one.
What enters the synaptic end bulb?
Calcium ions enter synaptic end bulb. 3. Calcium ions cause synaptic end bulb vesicles to migrate to distal end of synaptic end bulb.
Is axon terminal the same as synaptic end bulb?
TL;DR: They are all basically the same, but the axon terminal refers to location, and the synaptic bulb is the 'structure'.Jun 6, 2018
What happens at the end bulbs of the axon?
At the end of an axon, there is a so-called axon terminal that is button-like and is responsible for providing synapses between neurons. The axon terminal contains specialized chemicals called neurotransmitters that are initially contained inside the synaptic vesicles.Mar 18, 2022
Are neurotransmitters released from the synaptic end bulb?
The presynaptic element is the synaptic end bulb of the axon where Ca2+ enters the bulb to cause vesicle fusion and neurotransmitter release. The neurotransmitter diffuses across the synaptic cleft to bind to its receptor.Mar 6, 2013
When an action potential reaches a synaptic end bulb?
When an action potential reaches the axon terminals, voltage-gated Ca2+ channels in the membrane of the synaptic end bulb open. The concentration of Ca2+ increases inside the end bulb, and the Ca2+ ion associates with proteins in the outer surface of neurotransmitter vesicles.
What are synaptic terminals?
aka axon terminals, synaptic boutons are small swellings that are found at the terminal ends of axons. They are typically the sites where synapses with other neurons are found, and neurotransmitters are stored there to communicate with other neurons via these synapses.
What is found in synaptic end bulbs of axon terminal?
Found in synaptic end bulbs of axon terminal; contains neurotransmitter molecules.
What is the function of synaptic bulb?
Synaptic function is to transmit nerve impulses between two nerve cells (neurons) or between a neuron and muscle cell. Synapses connect one neuron to another and are thus responsible for the transmission of messages from the nerves to the brain and vice versa.
What is the end of an axon called?
axon terminal
The end branches of an axon are called telodendria. The swollen end of a telodendron is known as the axon terminal which joins the dendron or cell body of another neuron forming a synaptic connection.
When the blank reaches the end of the axon?
When the 5 reaches the ends of the axon, the neurotransmitter is released and diffuses to the muscle cell membrane to combine with receptors there.
What neurotransmitter is released into the synaptic cleft?
GABA
GABA is a small-molecule neurotransmitter synthesized within the presynaptic terminal of GABA-containing neurons. Once synthesized, GABA is packaged in vesicles and stored at the post-synaptic terminal until the arrival of an action potential causes these vesicles to release their contents into the synaptic cleft.
What is the synaptic cleft?
Synaptic cleft. Up until now the synaptic cleft has merely been a space between the neural and muscular components of the neuromuscular junction. It does however, house an enzyme that is imperative for the proper function of muscles.
What is the axon terminal?
At this point, each axon of the motor neuron will divide into branches called axon terminals. Towards the end of the axon terminal, closest to the muscle fiber, the tip of the axon terminal enlarges and becomes known as the synaptic end bulb. It is the synaptic end bulb of the motor neuron that comprises the nervous system component ...
What is the layer of connective tissue that surrounds a muscle called?
Within the muscle, bundles of muscle fibers or cells, known as fascicles, are bound together by another layer of connective tissue known as the perimysium. Every muscle fiber or cell within a fascicle is itself encased in a layer of connective tissue called endomysium
Where is the motor end plate located?
There is one neuromuscular junction associated with each muscle fiber, and it is typically located near the middle of the fiber. This means that the motor end plate will also be located ...
What is the neuromuscular junction?
A number of the events that occur at the neuromuscular junction can be affected by either plant products or drugs. For example, the botulinum toxin, which is produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum, blocks the release of ACh from the synaptic vesicles contained within the synaptic end bulb. With no ACh present in the synaptic cleft and no binding to acetylcholine receptors within the motor end plate region, muscle contraction does not occur, essentially paralyzing the victim, stopping respiration and leading to death.
How does anticholinesterase work?
These anticholinesterase agents act by slowing the activity of AChE, which in turn slows the removal of ACh from the synaptic cleft.
Where is ACh stored?
ACh is stored inside the synaptic end bulb within membrane-enclosed sacs known as synaptic vesicles. As the electrical signal approaches the synaptic end bulb, it stimulates the inflow of calcium (Ca2+) by opening voltage-gated channels in the cell membrane of the neuron.
What is the synaptic cleft?
The synaptic cleft, by definition, is a tiny opening between neurons. ... When the electrical signal reaches the presynaptic ending, it is translated into a chemical message that then diffuses across the synaptic cleft to the postsynaptic cell.
What is the function of the synapse?
The function of the synapse is to transfer electric activity (information) from one cell to another. The transfer can be from nerve to nerve (neuro-neuro), or nerve to muscle (neuro-myo). The region between the pre- and postsynaptic membrane is very narrow, only 30-50 nm.

But in laymans terms I'd describe the synaptic end bulb as a sort of storage connector. Think of it as an electrical circuit with a direction of flow. The electricity (information/nerve impulse) flows *out* of the bulb end therefore it's part of the ‘pre’ synaptic, the bulb is settled into a corresponding indentation (the synaptic cleft) like an electrical outlet and a plug would be.

Mar 12, 2008 · 389. 0. What are you asking? The function is the same as any other synapse, in this case the information transfer is between a motor neuron and a muscle cell. These synapses mediate the signal to contract a muscle. Or are you asking about the particular organization of the end-plate? This is likely to make a very 'strong' synapse.
