How do you use Gilders paste?

Applying the Gilders Paste to a smooth surface won't work, so make sure your surface has some texture. If needed, you can rough it up by rubbing your surface with sand paper or steel wool so the paste will stick. If your paste dries out, just add a small amount of paint thinner or mineral spirits to thin it.

Is Gilders® paste wax a paint?

Our product is not a paint, but rather a wax-based medium used to highlight and color a variety of substrates and materials, both inside and outside while providing that great, wax-finished look. By adding traditional paint thinner, you can transform GILDERS ® paste wax into a cream, paint, stain, or wash—all with one product.

How long does it take for gilders ® paste to dry?

The oil content of these type of cleaners/solvents will not allow the GILDERS ® paste to dry and will remain wet or tacky for days to weeks. If you have accidentally used this type of cleaner/solvent, leave the tin open until it is completely dried out, then follow the suggestions for rejuvenation above.

What is the difference between metallic and non metallic Gilders paste?

The metallic Gilders Pastes will change from a glossy to a gilded finish, and the non-metallic pastes will change from a matte finish to a soft shine. I always like getting my hands dirty, so applying Gilders Paste with my fingers is my preferred method.

Allow to dry before you paint. Since this item is purely decorative and we want to preserve a full matt finish, no sealer is applied. If you do wnat to seal over your Gilder's Paste, allow 72 hours for curing and then seal. Gilder's Paste can also be used on top of sealer.

Finishing

Theoretically, you should be able to leave your filigree unfinished after the Gilders Paste has cured (provided you started with some good “tooth” for the paste to stick to). This being said, I always recommend adding a sealer over top, particularly with high wear pieces.

Clean Up

I already mentioned that I just through away my used paint brushes. You do not want to do this with your palette knives, however. You can easily clean these tools using a bit of mineral spirits on a rag. I just use warm soapy water for my hands, and use a Ranger Craft Scrubbie for any stubborn spots on my hands.
