I woke up thinking about a conversation I had yesterday with my neighbor, Kent - realizing that my whole neighborhood, possibly most of the island, my country, the planet!!! has been brainwashed into believing that it is not possible to have a nice yard without using dangerous chemicals like Round- Up to kill weeds.

RATS are a nuisance, destroy property and directly and indirectly transmit disease. Did you know, Hawaii has roof rats (Rattus rattus) that are excellent climbers and use branches of trees/plantings to gain access to your roof? These rats also inhabit trees and the dead fronds (thatch) built up around the trunks of palm trees.
Use by humans
During the 1970s and 1980s, it was promoted as a "miracle tree" for its multiple uses. It has also been described as a "conflict tree" because it is used for forage production but spreads like a weed in some places.
Invasive properties
Leucaena leucocephala is considered one of the 100 worst invasive species by the Invasive Species Specialist Group of the IUCN Species Survival Commission.
Other limitations
This species is susceptible to insect infestations. In the 1980s, a widespread loss in Southeast Asia was due to pest attack by psyllids.
Potential as bioherbicidal agent
