Inadvertent entry into IMC is a situation where pilots lose visual contact with the ground due to deteriorating meteorological conditions. The most common reason for inadvertent entry into IMC is pushing the limits of VFR
VFR
In aviation, visual flight rules (VFR) are a set of regulations under which a pilot operates an aircraft in weather conditions generally clear enough to allow the pilot to see where the aircraft is going.

How many C's are there in IIMC?

Whether all Five C's will apply in each IIMC circumstance will depend on existing conditions (e.g., terrain, obstacles, etc.).

What is the 5 C procedure?

The Five C procedure is a fast-acting antidote to confusion and anxiety during the first 10 to 15 seconds after IIMC. It is within these critical seconds that the battle with IIMC is won or lost. If aircraft control can be maintained during this initial crucial period, the chances of surviving an IIMC experience are greatly enhanced.

How high was the Haboob?

All of a sudden, everything disappeared. We were engulfed in the haboob at about 200 feet above ground level. My CE announced he could not see anything. With seconds seeming like eternity, I announced I had inadvertently entered instrument meteorological conditions (IMC) and initiated the proper procedures. The only thing on my mind was to stop turning, level the aircraft and, most importantly, climb.

I can honestly say I don’t know what you are asking. It sounds like you are asking if there is a regulation that makes an event with a high accident fatality rate an emergency (stats indicate that VFR into IMC accidents are fatal about 80% of the time).

Description

Threats

  • Visual flight rules (VFR) flights that inadvertently or intentionally enter into instrument meteorological conditions (IMC) continue to be a significant safety hazard to general aviation (GA) flights. Although loss of control (LOC) and controlled flight into terrain (CFIT)accidents by VFR pilots in IMC typically account only for a proportion of the...

Errors and Risks

  • Accident statistics show that a pilot who has not been trained and qualified in instrument flying, or one whose instrument skills have eroded, will soon lose control of the aeroplane if forced to fly solely by reference to flight instruments. VFR Pilots may attempt to continue a VFR flight in IMC conditions for many reasons, such as: 1. Placing priority on the wrong things (e.g. loss of time o…

Risk Management

  • To reduce the risk of an accident from inadvertent VFR flight into IMC, pilots need strategies to avoid adverse weather and a framework of actions to assist recovery if they inadvertently fly into IMC. The first step to be taken by a VFR pilot to avoid encountering IMC is effective pre-flight planning. Pilots must be able to access comprehensive weather information to use at the planni…
