How thick are structural insulated panels?
Typical wall panel thicknesses are 4-1/2 inches and 6-1/2 inches. The largest panel size to date is 9' x 24'. Curved panels are possible although not common and it is often more practical to use stud framing for non-orthogonal geometries. Roof panels are typically 10-1/4 inches and 12-1/4 inches thick.
Are structural insulated panels any good?

Can SIPs panels get wet?
SIPs & THE WEATHER: SIPs panels should not be allowed to get wet during construction because if water gets into the panels the moisture has no way to escape from the composite structure. This can build-in the problem of mould.
Do SIPs need Vapour barrier?
Your SIP panel home kits will need a breather membrane attache to the outer face of the panels which won't tent (flap away from the wall surface) and you'll need to install a good vapour barrier to the inside surface of the walls to prevent water vapour penetrating the SIP and insulation.
Are SIPs cheaper than stick framing?

What size timber sole plate for Kingspan?
In addition to the many benefits of using 142mm Kingspan TEK™ panels (as opposed to 172mm), the slimmer panels also work well with standard sized 140mm wide timber sole plates. Thicker panels not only require larger non-standard timber sole plates but also the 'end timbers' and timber posts need to be increased in size.
