Your NetID is the part of your e-mail address before the @ symbol. For example, if your email address were [email protected], your NetID would be johndoe. Your NetID has a password associated with it, this password is commonly called your NetID password. It may also be referred to as your Active Directory password.

What is a NetID?
All faculty, staff, students and guests are assigned a Rutgers unique identifier known as a NetID, comprised of initials and a unique number (e.g. jqs23). In order to access many of the electronic services available to you at Rutgers, you need to activate your Rutgers NetID. Your assigned NetID will appear on the activation screen.

How many characters are required for a password?
At least one capital letter or a minimum password length of 20 characters. No spaces at the beginning or end of the password. At least one lower case number or minimum password length of 20 characters. At least two special characters or numbers or a minimum password length of 20 characters.
When will university netids change?
Beginning in March 2019, the process in which students claim their University NetIDs and change their University NetID passwords will be changing. Students will now be able to change their University NetID passwords at anytime using the NetID Account Management Center.
