The Ikea plinths aren't' wood or even particle board. It's a kind of veneer mounted onto a piece of plastic. Has anyone attempted to cut these kinds of plinths down.

Common mistake, overlooking the flooring height when planning / fitting the base units and plinth, height wise.

Cut down with fine tooth handsaw, holding saw at a shallow angle. Main thing is to fully support length of plinth as you cut, get another pair of hands there to help you and stop plinth waggling around
