PLTW Core Training online experiences are designed with the intention that, even though participants will not have all of the equipment at home, the training and subsequent available resources will leave them confident in having the knowledge to facilitate content and properly handle all course-related equipment.

What is Project Lead the Way?

Project Lead the Way is a non-profit organization that provides STEM courses and development for elementary, middle and high school students across the U.S. There’s also a development training in place for teachers. Instead of providing students with reading and tests, the students are given real-world challenges to overcome. This problem-solving enhances critical thinking, communication among the students and the art of collaboration.

Which foundations have provided funding to the PLTW?

Foundations like the Conrad Foundation, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation have provided funding in other states. In New York, South Carolina, Iowa and Indiana, PLTW had funding provided by the government.

Foundation Units

Design & Modeling Students apply the design process to solve problems and understand the influence of creativity and innovation in their lives. They work in teams to design a playground and furniture, capturing research and ideas in their engineering notebooks.

Specialization Units

Introduction to Computer Science 1 Studies show that by 2018, 1.4 million job openings will be available for computer specialists. In this unit, students discover the principles of this fast-growing field by focusing on creativity and an iterative design process as they create their own basic apps using MIT App Inventor.
