How do I know what size screw to use for faceplate?
An easy way to check the proper size of a given screw is to drop one in a screw hole on the faceplate and hold it up for inspection. The screw should seat in and fill the recessed screw hole area of the faceplate surface. It should not be too small and able to slide around much.

How many times can you use Torx drive screws?
I use galvanized torx head deck screws #8x 1 1/2 or longer. Torx drive screws can be used 20-30 times without failing. Beware of using longer screws because the shank will twist off in wet wood if alllowed to sit very long.
What size screws do I use for self tapping?
I use #10 or #12 self tapping sheet metal screws, either 1” or 1.5”. They won’t break and have incredible holding strength.
How long are screws on a rocker switch?

Why do rocker switch plates have 5/16 screws?
Rocker switch plates and some other specialty wall plates have 5/16" screws because longer screws will hit the wall surface underneath the plate.
