How high should a vessel sink be?

While vessels sink tends to look better than standard sinks, they also follow different measurements in terms of height. For example, vessel sinks tend to be way higher than normal ones because they go over a countertop. This top, for sure, also has a specific height – so you may be looking at a very high sink overall.#N#The typical height of a countertop or dresser tends to be between 27 and 32 inches. Homeowners installing new sinks usually find that they don’t know the ideal drain height. And this happens because all sinks are different, so they all demand different measurements. Size

A standard rule of thumb is that sewer pipes leading away from a toilet are 3 inches in diameter. Sewer drains from laundry sinks or washing machines are 2 inches in diameter and those from sinks in the kitchen, bathroom or powder room generally use a 1.5-inch pipe. The main sewer pipe leading to the septic tank or public sewer is usually 4 inches.

Misconceptions

Some people think they can decrease the likelihood of clogs by using larger pipes. This can be a mistake. The water pressure helps solid wastes move through the pipe and large pipes spread that pressure out. So a larger pipe may slow the flow of the drain water and cause waste to pool.

Expert Insight

Tim Carter of Ask the Builder recommends a 2-inch sewer drain on a bathtub just as most plumbing codes require on showers. Although code may allow you to get away with a 1.5-inch drain, a 2-inch pipe better accommodates a plumber's snake and prevents clogs from hair.

The 4x2 wye that now has a 1.5" pipe can be piped with 2" which is twice the volume of 1.5". The pumped line should be piped to a 3" or 4" line. You can't mix gravity and pumped on the small lines. Have you snaked the shower?

Reach4 Well-Known Member

I'm at my mother's house, and the drain line from her kitchen has always been prone to clogging. It is tied into a 2" line that also drains a tub and a shower after it before it dumps into a 4" main line. The slope on this line never was really correct, so it tends to back up from the kitchen sink.

So, sounds like combining the kitchen sink's 2" and the pumped line and then continuing it in 2" would be okay?
