What should the pipe Stat be set to?

Is the pipe stat fitted on the flow or return, if on return all the rads will heat up until return water reaches set temp. Pipe stat should be set to 10, you only want it to stop the pipes freezing.

This stops cold water being pumped around the system, thus reducing corrosion and increasing boiler life.

What is a pipe stat?

A pipe thermostat is a mechanical/electronic piece of hardware that helps to monitor parts of a heating or cooling system, usually by attaching to a piece of pipe, and monitoring the temperature of the local area. A thermostat is a device that regulates temperature for a system.

I have a L641B1004 pipe Frost Stats and it was set at 25c in conjunction with a wall Frost stat set at 5c.

Steelmasons

Pipe stat regulates the boiler return temp....frost stat is switched via air temp.

Chris Dodds

thanks Steelmasons but that is different to what newboy says?????? if I leave it at 25c it will be on nearly every night in the winter, keeping me awake and using gas that I don't want it to. Any solutions to this?

Newboy

If the pipe stat is installed for solely frost protection then a low setting is fine.

Chris Dodds

Which for me it is. I only would want the boiler to start up on a night if there is a risk of Frost/pipes frosting. I have changed this from:

Steelmasons

Why do you suppose Honeywell recommend pipe stat setting to be @ 25c????
