Is Lake Temescal open?
Once a natural pond fueled by Temescal Creek and formed because of a gap in the Hayward Fault directly beneath, Lake Temescal is a gorgeous open space that many folks bla ze right past , as it sits at the junction of Routes 24 and 13.#N#Depending on water quality, the lake is great for swimming and fishing. One part of it is an artificial beach that you have to pay to use during the warmer months. If you're less inclined to dip your toes in the water, there are plenty of open lawns and picnic areas at both ends of the lake where you can congregate and enjoy the lake and hill views.#N#And, of course, there's a trail around the lake where you can get some steps in (about 4,000 worth in my case) or step aside at overlooks and pullouts to fish, which many people were doing. The lake is periodically stocked with trout, bass, and other species. Plenty of signage throughout the premises gives you more insight into the environment. The overall good condition of the premises also has a lot to do with EBRPD funding and oversight.#N#A gorgeous public space that's super convenient to access thanks to its location and to a large parking lot - and is also super easy to explore. Even though it feels somewhat isolated because it's up against the hills, in reality it's super close to Rockridge, Elmwood, Temescal, Montclair, and other area neighborhoods.
