Is federal court and Supreme Court the same thing?
The federal court system has three main levels: district courts (the trial court), circuit courts which are the first level of appeal, and the Supreme Court of the United States, the final level of appeal in the federal system. Courts in the federal system work differently in many ways than state courts.
What is the majority opinion of the Supreme Court?
When more than half of the justices agree, the Court issues a majority opinion. Other times, there is no majority, but a plurality, so the Court issues a plurality opinion. Typically, one justice is identified as the author of the main opinion.
