There is no wrong or right direction when installing your drilled/slotted brake rotors. But here is what we recommend: Left Side (Driver Side) Right Side (Passenger Side) Picture shown is with the hub facing up. Some people like to install them in the opposite side and that is fine too. It's personal preference.

Slotted rotors
For rotors with slots machined in the same direction as the internal cooling vanes, the slots should lean toward the back of the car. For rotors with slots machined in the opposite direction as the internal cooling vanes, the slots should lean toward the front of the car.

What happens if you put slotted rotors on backwards?

Curved Vane Rotors Are Directional The rotor sucks air in from the center of the rotor, pumps it through the vanes, and out through the outside edge of the rotor. This “centrifugal pump” design helps the rotor dissipate heat. If you install a curved vane rotor backwards, it won't be able to pump air as effectively.

Are drilled and slotted rotors good for daily driving?

Drilled and slotted rotors do work particularly well for tow vehicles, trucks, and other cars that carry heavy loads. Heavier vehicles require more energy to come to a stop safely, and this type of brake rotor excels at delivering it. Drilled & slotted brake rotors are also are fine for general use in street vehicles.

Are vented rotors directional?

The cooling vanes in a Vented Rotor determine if it is directional. If the vanes are curved or tilted, it is a directional rotor. If the vanes are straight, like the spokes of a wagon wheel, it is non-directional.

Are Wilwood rotors directional?

Wilwood Disc Brakes - SRP Drilled Performance Rotor. For custom, show and high performance sport driving, SRP rotors offer the high tech look and improved performance of a directional cross-drill and face slot pattern.

Do brake pads have a direction?

Directional brake pads differ from standard pads in both their form, and of course their fit – they must be mounted in a specific direction, hence their name. Because of this, technicians should take time to inspect both the old and new pads for any visual signs as to their orientation.

What are non-directional rotors?

But what is a non-directional finish? “A non-directional finish typically features a criss-cross pattern on the rotor surface. A directional finish is the finish that results when you resurface the rotor with a cutting tool. It looks like the grooves in a vinyl record.”

What is a stoptech rotor?

1. StopTech SportStop slotted rotors are machined with slots crossing the vanes, not parallel to them. 2. Unless the vehicle manufacturer specified otherwise, rotors with directional vanes are to be installed so that at the top edge of the rotor, the vanes sweep toward the back of the car. 3.

Do slot rotors work in the same direction?

4. Slots perform their function identically regardless of direction. Only in the case of "straight" vane or solid rotors, if a customer prefers the appearance, rotors may be installed with the slot direction reversed.

Which way should the slots on a rotor lean?

For rotors with slots machined in the same direction as the internal cooling vanes, the slots should lean toward the back of the car.

What is a directional rotor?

Some higher performance cars come with "directional rotors", which have curved or tilted internal cooling vanes. These curved vanes pump more air through the rotors, resulting in improved cooling efficiency. Thus, there is a left and a right rotor.

How to tell if rotor is drilled?

Drilled rotors. It is not possible to tell if a drilled rotor is installed properly, simply by observing the drill pattern. Different manufacturers use different patterns with spiral "arms" that appear to lean in either direction, regardless of the internal cooling fin orientation.

What is a straight vane rotor?

Most "normal" cars come with straight vane rotors, with internal cooling vanes that extend straight from the center of the rotor outward, like spokes on a wagon wheel. (See drawing on lower right) These rotors are not as efficient at cooling, but they are less expensive to manufacture and car dealers only have to stock a single part ...

Do Porsche rotors lean backwards?

Porsche OEM rotors have a drill pattern that appears to lean to the back of the car. In both cases, the internal cooling fins are properly oriented, leaning backwards. But the drill pattern is opposite. This is why Porsche mechanics often install StopTech big brake kit rotors backwards, despite the big "L" and "R" stickers on the rotors!
