This causes him to angrily lash out, saying that he does not care about ending up on "some stupid " ofrenda ", making them all gasp in horror at such words. Abuelita, determined to prevent him from following the same path as his great-great-grandfather, then smashes Miguel's painstakingly crafted guitar despite the boy's pleas, shocking Miguel and even the other Riveras who think she's gone too far.
