Great information to help me work out a new strategy for countering the weak stems issue for my roses. But I do have to be careful not to cut the plants too drastically. Just a few feet in front of my rose bed, facing east, there is 4 ft. wall that will block the sunlight from canes cut too short.

Actually some of the roses affected were already here when we moved in. I've amended the soil somewhat by adding alfalfa and banana peelings trying my best to stay organic. On the whole, the roses seem to be enjoying their sunny location and have grown very tall with their main canes being quite sturdy.
Does hard pruning help tea?
If a hybrid tea has this problem, hard pruning sure doesn't help, as it encourages the production of fewer, larger, flowers.
Does potash stiffen stems?
Added Potash might help, this tend s to stiffen the stems on other things I grow, so might work here.
