Your dryer will not work when the door is not firmly closed. If your dryer keeps shutting off in the middle of a cycle, it could be that the motion of the laundry is popping the door open. Whether it's the door catch or the door strike (or both), replacing this small part is usually a fairly straightforward DIY fix.

What is the best way to prevent a dryer from igniting?

Thermal Fuse. The thermal fuse helps to prevent a dryer fire by shutting off power to the dryer if it overheats. If the dryer won't start check this fuse first. Test the thermal fuse with an ohm meter or continuity checker. This is the most common part to fail when the dryer won't start.

Where is the door switch on a dryer?

Door Switch. The door switch is located near the dryer door and is activated when the door is closed. If the door switch fails, the dryer won't start at all. Most door switches will make an audible click when they are activated. If the door switch makes a clicking sound when activated it is probably not defective.

Do you need a new motor for a dryer?

Let me make this simple for everyone. You need a new motor. It’s the only thing that allows the machine to start up again after a “cooling period”. It’s the sign of a thermal overload which means the motor has taken “damage”. GE dryers are a simple design.

Does GE have a thermal fuse?

GE has a thermal on the heat element and one buult in the motor. You either have a bad motor or a heating element issue. Bad thermals will not switch off cool and re contact so stating you need a thermal fuse when a drier is stopping and restarting after a minute is unlearned also.

Can a door switch stop a dryer?

A door switch has no relevance to a dryer quitting while running unless the door is bent and popping open from machine harmonics and vibrations. No one needs missinformation. It is less than useful. It leads people away from solving issues and closer to giving up and trashing a machine with a small parts issue.

How to fix a dryer that stops blowing?

A dryer that stops mid-way through or near the end of a cycle often points to a problem with the fuse box, not necessarily the dryer. Replace the fuses in the box with two new 30 amp fuses. Run the dryer for about 15 minutes and then turn it off. Take out the fuses from the box and feel them to determine whether they're hot to the touch, particularly at their ends. If they're hot, it's likely they're melting the fuse link as opposed to blowing entirely. Contact an electrician to repair the fuse box issue.

You will want to remove it and rinse the lint off it.

Why is my dryer vent clear?

Why aren't my clothes drying?

If you’ve noticed your clothes aren’t dry after a full drying cycle, one of these reasons may be the culprit. First, you can try checking to see if your dryer vent is clogged. Why does my dryer stop producing heat?

What to do if your dryer keeps stopping?

Why does my dryer shut off?

Your dryer may also be shutting off after a few seconds due to an electrical malfunction caused by a clogged dryer vent. This can be potentially dangerous, and the vent will need to be cleared immediately.

1. Burnt Out Thermal Fuse

Dryers that do not stop running or heat up too hot can be dangerous because the excess heat and continuous operation can cause a fire.

2. Faulty Drive Motor

A faulty dryer motor is usually what’s behind all of these symptoms, and the need to stop and start over again. When it goes bad, the machine can’t pick up as much speed as it used to — as a result, the dryer cycle will be short and incomplete.

3. Defective Timer

The timer on a dryer is a crucial component that helps determine the dryness of clothing. Sometimes a timer will malfunction and not detect heat from the heating element. Other times, the heat from the heating element may short out the timer.

4. Faulty Door Latch

To ensure that your garments dry quickly and safely, you need to ensure the door is correctly closed. If you are certain that it’s shut, but have lost power to the dryer for some reason, the cycle will be paused until power is restored. The detergent may build up with repeated use in an improperly closed dryer door.

5. Blocked Vent

A dryer vent, which can typically be found on the back or side of a dryer unit, is designed to release hot air out of the dryer. Lint sometimes gets in the way of this process, however, and in some cases it can cause the heat in the dryer to build up. This poses a fire hazard.

6. Blower Wheel Obstruction

If you’re having loud noises coming from the rear of your dryer, chances are it’s the blower wheel. The blower wheel pushes air through the dryer drum and out the venting at the rear.

7. Faulty Home Wiring

If your dryer won’t turn back on after a power outage, you can troubleshoot the problem by checking the power cord. First, check the outlet. If it seems to be working fine, inspect the cord for wear and tear. If the cord’s insulation looks damaged or frayed, call a professional to replace it.

GE Dryer Keeps Stopping But Clothes Are Still Wet

I have a load of towels in the dryer and put the dial on "towels". It said it would take 1:16 minutes. I normally just use "timed dry" and set my own time but I kept it on the towel setting this time. In about 5 minutes it stopped and chimed that the cycle was complete. I reset it.

Something sounds wrong with the Sensor that detects moisture in the load.
