Why is my boiler making a high pitched noise?
Whining – When a higher-pitched, whining noise is heard, it could mean that a small hole in the boiler has developed and the unit is experiencing a "tea kettle" effect. If the unit is an oil boiler, whining can mean that a fuel line may be restricted.
How do I stop my boiler from whistling?
If your boiler is making a whistling sound but you're not in a hard water area, it may be a simple case of trapped air in the system. This is quite a simple repair for your gas engineer. They'll just need to release it from your boiler and work out what's causing the air to get trapped, so it doesn't happen again.
Why is my boiler making a weird noise?
The causes of boilers making funny noises are numerous. It could be a pressure problem, a broken valve, a heat pump issue or a problem with sludge build-up in the water pipes. Noises tend to emanate from combustion fans, warm air furnace blowers or heating oil pumps, all vital parts of your off-mains oil boiler.
Can your boiler explode?
Can a boiler explode? Well, yes. It can be very dangerous so ensure you call someone out as soon as possible if your boiler is overheating.
Why is my ideal boiler whistling?
While kettling can cause a whistling sound (think of the old whistling kettles), it's more likely that whistling is caused by trapped air in the system. It's a relatively quick process for an engineer to release the air, but a good engineer will want to know how air is getting into the system, as that's not normal.
What does an airlock in a boiler sound like?
Gurgling boiler noises If you are experiencing gurgling noises coming from your pipework or boiler, it could be that you have air trapped in your system.
Why does my boiler sounds like an Aeroplane?
It's pretty safe to assume that this noise is caused by either kettling or trapped air inside the central heating system. First, try to bleed your radiators to remove the air. This is a very easy process and doesn't need an engineer call-out, but don't forget to check and adjust your boiler's pressure afterwards.
How long should boilers last?

Why is my central heating whistling?
A build-up of limescale inside the heat exchanger restricts the water flow and causes a noise that sounds like a whistling kettle. It can be dealt with by descaling the system. First, add descaler to the feed and expansion tank. Once it has had time to work, drain the system and flush the system with clean water.
Why does my boiler sounds like an Aeroplane?
If your boiler is making hissing noises; then your boiler is probably kettling. This can cause the boiler to overheat. Why does my boiler make a whistling noise?
Check the water pressure- If the water pressure is too low then it might be the culprit of your whistling noise. Have a look at the pressure gauge that is located in the area where the pipes are connected to the boiler, in order to check on the pressure of water in your boiler.
Why does my boiler make a sound?
Bleed the system- In many cases the sound from the boiler is a result of the air trapped in the system that needs to be released out. That is probably when you would need to bleed the system that can be done in a few simple steps-
Why does my boiler whistle when hot water is on?
It might be the case in which there isn’t enough water flowing through the system due to the low pressure. That is why your boiler is whistling when hot water is on. You need to look at the pressure gauge to check the pressure. If you find the pressure to be lower than one bar, then you would need to repressurise the system.
How to know if boiler is turning off?

I have an Ideal Icos HE24 boiler. When I switch on the central heating, it starts making a loud whining noise and will eventually stop after around 5 mins. Sometimes it’ll start whining again and then stop intermittently.

The only other thing I would possibly check is if it has an autobypass fitted near the boiler, they can whistle/whine sometimes.
