The same reason why in Japan a g35 is a skyline. Because the Nissan engineers who designed the car the manufacture who owns the rights to the name Skyline decided it's not. It doesn't really matter what you want to believe or not Nissan decided it's not one decided to name the r35 just Gt-r so that's all it is.
