People want to talk about diversity and unity in comics, these two have been doing it for a while now and don’t seem to get the kind of attention that comes to mind when other, more notable heroes practice diversity. It’s funny how Cloak barely ever gets mentioned when we talk about black heroes in the comics, and Dagger isn’t mentioned when it comes to women. That kind of blows the debates about sexism and race right out of the water, at least briefly, since these two have been working together for a while and are actually quite effective when you take a look at them. Dagger and Cloak are so opposite that it seems as though it shouldn’t work in the least, but overall they’ve been one of the best duo’s in the Marvel universe for quite some time. As power goes they’re both impressive but not so physically strong as to be on par with a lot of heroes, but their abilities are insanely impressive since Cloak tends to subsist on living beings that are drawn into his darkness, even though he can be sustained for a while by Dagger’s ability to produce light. Both are apparently mutants as their latent abilities were awakened by the use of an experimental drug that ‘woke up’ said abilities and cause them to manifest. For this reason alone it’s enough to think that we might be able to see them in a future X-Men movie if the powers that be are going to be kind enough. They’ve worked with the X-Men as well as The New Mutants in the past, which could mean that there’s a chance that we might see their influence at some point if the people in charge are going to play it smart. After all this duo was given a shot on TV, where Marvel has been notoriously up and down, so maybe it’s time to give them a shot on the big screen and see what comes of it.
