I got a trip down memory lane tonight when a circuit blew. No worries i thought ill unplug what was plugged in and reset the circuit. I get out there and see something i havent seen in 20+ years. An old style ceramic wired fuse, with actual wire for the fuse not a proper rcd style circuit.

When I was renting out my property last year my property manager advised that I had to upgrade the fuse box to comply with requirements - my original fusebox was the ceramic style with wire. As to whether it's the law, I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was.

I'm a fellow renter. Don't know the law, but I have been in several houses across NSW with old wire fuses. Just jam a nail in it, she'll be right In seriousness though, don't do that. I was lucky enough that in each of these houses there was a coil of fuse wire left in the fuse box, so could easily bung in a new one myself.

WA also has the requirement that any house sold has to have RCD protection installed for all power and lights since 2009.

In WA for certain, and far as I know other states, it is a legal requirement that RCD protection is installed for rentals. That might mean just two RCD's covering the entire house with the fuses doing overload protection still.
