8. A Familiar Kind of Transformer
Now, here's the kind of Transformer I remember from the '80s. I don't know much about this particular model, except that it comes from an insane Japanese robot website .
What is the transformer cog?
It is the part that allows all Cybertronians to shift from their humanoid form to their alt. form. In Transformers Prime, it is stated that not even the best in their field could build a Cog. It is either part of the Cybertronian from the start, or transplanted into one. There is no making one, thus no making a transformer unless you have a spare one already.

Meanwhile, humanoid robots barely work at all at the moment, and having to carry around the dead weight of vehicle parts isn’t helping that.

Transformers can think for themselves, and are made from a material from outer space. The best we have done is making cars that transform into robots, but still hold many molds of the original car and keeps the rear wheels as legs.

They aim to get J-deite used in theme parks. Well, we certainly want to go to that theme park. Paramount. Amazingly, they're still making Transformers movies with the fifth one, The Last Knight, released just last year. However, a sixth outing looks in doubt.

Creating a buzz
A collaboration between Japanese scientists called Project J-deite aims to create a full walking Transformer by 2020. That end date is still a few years off, but the mission is well underway — the most recent video update showed off a ¼ scale Bumblebee model that walks and drives — although, sadly, can’t yet communicate through the car radio.
Busting a move
The Humvee Bioloid is much smaller than its real-life military counterpart, and was developed by engineer JK Han at Virginia Tech. It’s probably not ready to take on Megatron in battle yet, not least thanks to its table-top size, but once transformed it delivers a few dance moves and pulls off a Usain Bolt pose.
Elementary machine
The closest thing the world has seen to a genuine Cybertronian comes from Turkish company Letrons. Its team spent eight months creating Antimon, a life-size Transformer made from a shiny, red BMW, with an electronic battery, 120-degree neck movement, and remote control movement software.

Can a giant toy be driven?
There are a couple of downsides to the giant toy. The car can’t be driven , but it is remotely-controlled. Also, when it’s in robot-mode, the car can’t walk (although the company said they were working on adding that capability). The transformation was also a little slow, but hey, it’s still a car that transforms into a giant robot.
