I don't think the plasterboard mounts will hold in the long run. The outward force from the shelves will be leveraged by their width. Imagine pushing down on the outer edge of the shelf. I hope you are good at repairing plaster holes!

I believe adding additional support is the only way this will work. If the op try’s and fails they will have some big holes to patch,,, better off to cut it out now add bracing and patch the walls. If careful no new Sheetrock will be needed just patches.+

if the wall is small put an mdf board from corner to corner. you can fix the mdf to the corner studs. Then you can fix the brackets on top of the mdf by wood screws.

Not very scientific I know but I have use iPhone apps on my phone to locate nailed studs. I found one which was very good, was putting up a heavy mirror and it located a stud for me spot on. Can’t remember name now as deleted it from phone as soon as it had served it’s purpose.
