How does a dust separator work?

How a separator works. Like a cyclone collector, a separator connected between a dust collector or vacuum and a dust-making machine forces heavier chips and dust particles to drop out of the airflow. Lighter particles remain airborne and continue on to the collector or vac for collection and filtration.

Why does dust deputy have two buckets?

Why are there two buckets in the Dust Deputy Deluxe kit? There are two stacked buckets so that you can attach the outside one to your vac and add casters to make the kit portable if you choose. The inside bucket collects the debris and will be the one that you will empty.

What's the difference between a shop vac and a dust extractor?

Range – While shop vacs can be used to clean a range of materials that are not wood-related such as broken pieces of glass and water, dust extractors cannot. Instead, dust extractors are limited to only cleaning the dust and wood related matters such as sawdust.

As it services dust from circulation, cyclone systems aid in increasing airflow within a plant or factory.

How does a cyclone vacuum cleaner work?

A cyclonic vacuum cleaner, pulls the dirt and dust at high speed through a filter and into a collection vessel. Inside the bin a small air vortex is made by the motor which separates the particles from the air and pushes them to the sides of the bin.

How does a cyclone filter work?

How It Works. Cyclone separators work much like a centrifuge, but with a continuous feed of dirty air. In a cyclone separator, dirty flue gas is fed into a chamber. The inside of the chamber creates a spiral vortex, similar to a tornado.

Dust Deputy Questions | Oneida Air Systems

In most cases, yes - but the cyclone's efficiency will vary based on whether your vacuum is also turned on. The Dust Deputy cyclone needs a consistent airflow rate to "spin" the dust out of the airstream; If your tool's fan blower is pushing air in while your vacuum is also sucking air out, this can disrupt the airflow rate and reduce the cyclone's separation performance.

Where is Dust Deputy made?

The Dust Deputy® cyclone is a craftsman's dream; a durable, high performance product made in the USA that can be adapted for almost any shop!

Why should a drum be reinforced?

Built With A Strong, Rigid Structure - Your drum should be reinforced or rigidly built to avoid caving in due to the air pressure created by your vacuum and the Dust Deputy. Another item to note is that the larger your container is, the more reinforced it must be to withstand the higher pressures. Type. Example.

What size inlet for Dust Deputy?

The Dust Deputy can be used with any make, model, or size wet/dry vacuum with an inlet ranging from 1.5" to 2.5" in size. We recommend that it has an airflow rating of at least 50 CFM to ensure optimum dust separation performance.

What is the best seal for vacuum dust?

The dust container you provide must be able to be sealed airtight for the best performance. Foam gaskets or silicone caulk can help provide an airtight seal. Containers must also be strong enough to withstand the pressure created by your vacuum. For plastic buckets, we recommend at least a 90 mil. wall thickness; otherwise, the container may collapse when in use.

How to ground a cyclone?

Apply conductive metal tape to the cyclone. For added grounding, attach a wire with a washer tied to one end when installing one of the bolts at the base of the cyclone. Click "Read More" for further instructions.

Its patented design uses centrifugal force to literally spin dust and debris out of the air-stream, trapping it in a container below; NOT in your vacuum! What Can I Use The Dust Deputy Cyclone For?

The Dust Deputy benefits anyone with a wet/dry vacuum, not just woodworkers! We have thousands of customers around the world using the Dust Deputy with nearly every type of material, including but not limited to:

What is neutral vane?

Hi Glen, we're happy to hear you caught our advert in Family Handyman! To answer your question, the neutral vane is a new feature we added to our Dust Deputy cyclone earlier in 2020, so your cyclone (from 2018) would not likely have it. The neutral vane helps reduce static pressure loss from turbulence as air enters the cyclone. This not only allows for the cyclone to work with less powerful vacuums or with longer lengths of hose, but it also helps improve the separation performance. You unfortunately cannot add it to your existing cyclone, but if you are satisfied with your existing cyclone performance then we do not think you need to upgrade necessarily.

What is the second bucket in a Dust Deputy Deluxe Cyclone Kit?

The second bucket in the Dust Deputy Deluxe Cyclone Kit is used to hold the main dust bucket when the kit is mounted onto your wet/dry vacuum. If you choose not to mount it to your vac you can instead use the second bucket to quickly swap between full and empty buckets.

Why do shavings hang in the air?

Because the cyclone relies on centrifugal force and gravity to separate the dust from the air, materials that are lightweight and have a large surface area (such as the thin shavings you might make with a hand planer) can "hang" in the air as it spins through the cyclone. This can happen because they are very light or because they have generated a high amount of static charge causing them to cling to the cyclone. You may find success in taking extra steps to ground the cyclone - you can find instructions and suggestion on how to do this in the owner's manual for the product. You may also want to consider upgrading to a dedicated dust collector and Super Dust Deputy if the shavings you are talking about are being produce by a larger tool such as a lathe.

Does dust deputy work with dust and chips?

I run a hybrid shop. The dust deputy works remarkably well with dust and chips, but the longer, thin shavings seem to get through to the vacuum. What am I doing wrong?

Can you use a dust container with a vacuum?

In practical terms, you can use any size and shape dust container that you wish, so long as it is sealed airtight and is strong to withstand the suction pressure of your vacuum. We have had customer use our standard 2" Dust Deputy cyclones with containers as large as 1,000 gallon rain barrels without issue.
