What do you mean by MPF?
MPF means maturation-promoting factor. It is a protein complex that activates targets necessary to push the cell through the cell cycle.
What are the three parts of the maturation promoting factor?
The three parts of the maturation promoting factor are M cyclin, a cyclin dependent kinase, and a phosphate group which is used to phosphorylate ta...
What happens to MPF during mitosis?
During mitosis MPF is deactivated. During anaphase, active MPF activates another protein complex, APC. APC causes the M cyclins to be destroyed, th...
What does maturation promoting factor do?
Maturation-promoting factor is a protein complex made of a cyclin (M cyclin) and a cyclin dependent kinase. The cyclin dependent kinase is activate...
What are MPF intermediaries?
There are two types of MPF intermediaries: principal intermediaries and subsidiary intermediaries. a licensed long term insurance broker company under the IO. a licensed long term individual insurance agent, a licensed long term insurance agency or a licensed long term technical representative under the IO.
Who supervises MPF intermediaries?
MPF intermediaries who carry on MPF sales and marketing activities as their secondary line of business (in addition to their primary line of business in the banking, insurance and/or securities sectors) will be supervised by the MA, the IA and the SFC respectively.
What are regulated activities?
All persons who engage in MPF sales and marketing activities are required to register with MPFA as an MPF intermediary before they can engage in such activities.
What is a type 1 regulated activity?
an individual registered under the Banking Ordinance to carry on Type 1 regulated activity (dealing in securities) or Type 4 regulated activity (advising on securities), or both; and. a licensed long term individual insurance agent, a licensed long term insurance agency or a licensed long term technical representative under the IO.
What does "invite" mean in MPF?
inviting or inducing, or attempting to invite or induce, another person to make specific decisions on managing his/her MPF; or
What is the role of the Monetary Authority?
The Monetary Authority (MA), the Insurance Authority (IA) and the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) are given the statutory role of frontline regulators to supervise and investigate MPF intermediaries whose core business is in the banking, insurance and securities sectors respectively.
Cell Cycle
The cell cycle is the series of phases in a cell's life cycle. There are several stages in the cell cycle, which include:
Synthesis Phase In The Cell Cycle
The transition from G1 to synthesis phase is tightly controlled by the G1/S checkpoint. During G1, the cell is growing and doing its job in the body. Transitioning to the synthesis phase requires that the cell's DNA is fully intact and there are no mutations or breaks in the DNA.
Mitosis Phase In The Cell Cycle
After G2, the cell enters M phase, or mitosis. What is the M phase? M phase is where the cell divides and creates two identical daughter cells. Mitosis has stages of its own, including:
Prohibition on "regulated activity"
Disclaimer: The information provided in the FAQs reflects the Authority’s views on the interpretation of section 34L of the MPFSO and related provisions. It is provided without considering your specific circumstances, and should not be regarded as a substitute for professional advice.
Invitation or Inducement
Where a person merely issues an advertisement, invitation or document authorized by the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) under section 105 of the Securities and Futures Ordinance (Cap. 571) (SFO), he will not be regarded as carrying on a regulated activity by virtue of section 34F (2) MPFSO.
Regulated Advice
1. An independent financial adviser informs his client that he does not sell any MPF schemes and hence cannot assist him in enrolling in any MPF scheme or investing in any constituent fund. He only advises his client to invest in Constituent Fund A of MPF Scheme A. Is he giving regulated advice?
Scheme Administration
Many tasks associated with the administration of an MPF account do not generally constitute a regulated activity. These include providing a specified form at the request of a scheme member, receiving or passing on to another service provider a completed form, or noting or processing change of personal details of a scheme member.
Seminars
Whether a speaker at a seminar on MPF matters is carrying on a regulated activity depends on the circumstances of each case.
Scope of the prohibition
1. Is a financial institution which markets APIFs to MPF trustees of MPF schemes, with a view to getting the constituent funds of those MPF schemes to invest in those APIFs, carrying on a regulated activity?
What are the two subunits of MPF?
MPF is made up of two subunits: cyclin and CDK. cyclin activates CDK but is not constantly in the cell. therefore, the activity of MDF is regulated by cyclin
Why do cells need to be regulated?
cell division must be regulated to fit in with the growth and development of other cells/the body in order for the body to develop and function correctly. signaling in between cells coordinates cel growth and development
What is the critical regulatory point in the cell cycle?
critical regulatory point in the cell cycle. at each checkpoint, a set of conditions determines whether or not the cell will continue into the next phase
What is the restriction point in a cell?
the restriction point in mammalian cells is the G1 checkpoint. If a cell receives a go-ahead signal at this point, it will usually complete the G1, S, G2, and M phases, then divide. If it does not receive the go signal at this point, it will exit the cycle and switch into a non dividing state (G0)
