How big is a poppy pod? Well how long is a piece of string? Weight is much better to go by since pods vary a great deal in size. If we're talking dried, small ones might weigh a gram while big ones - the 'giganthemum' variety - can weigh 10 or even 15 grams a piece.

AFOAF gets her pods very cheaply so you must be looking at the wrong sites. And yes they are worth it considering how much opium or morphine you can easily extract from them.. triple figure prices don't sound right to AFOAF though

Yeah, if you have the patience and privacy it's much better to make solid opium. I've had marginal success at best making smokeable opium but it's fine just rolled into pills and swallowed. All the effects and none of the gross taste.

Encouraging an opiate naive user to make cooked flake opium is quite irresponsible IMO. Don't do this, the road to addiction is hard enough to avoid with poppy tea. Xotq, your question can't be answered because poppy pods are not standardised. The drugs that come out of them are. These are just dried plants. Poppy pods can vary greatly in potency.

so… i’m down from 2 pounds to 1/2 pound with no serious withdrawals, last time i quit after six solid years of using up to 3 pounds a day i was dying at this point, only started again 6 months ago again (worst choice i’ve made in a long time- new peeps- don’t start) with heavy using the past 4 months, anyone else had a successful not horrible taper experience??? am i feeling hopeful too soon??.

i don't think the pods will 'mature' any more if they've been picked - they are unlikely to get any stronger, so i don't see any point in waiting. they might drop their petals and begin to look more like poppy pods, but if they've been picked prematurely they won't develop any more.

as for the seeds, they're not much use. commercially available poppy seeds are believed to be coated in a thin layer of opium due to the mechanical processing of the poppies to remove the seeds. i've not known anyone to have good results from using the seed from dried or fresh pods. you'd need a lot of them to make a difference.
