What do most taxidermists charge for moose and elk shoulder mounts? Is it much different from doing a deer?
Steve-o Member
I don't think that they are much 'different' to mount than deer, but they are more work. You'll have more fleshing, thinning, sewing, etc. on a huge cape than you will on a deer. You may have to have the antlers detachable also. I have not done moose, but have done elk. I charge almost twice as much for an elk as I do for a deer.

I charge 1800. for moose and 1175. for elk. 195.00 extra for detachables. I do LOTS of both every year; esp. elk; dozens and dozens. $600. for that moose mount was a rip off to the taxidermist and just over his costs and at most 2.00 per hour for his time working after that.
