There's plenty of nature, the beach is always only a short drive away and everyone knows each other, for better or worse. I liked growing up in that bubble, that is until I left and realised that I had even been in a bubble. It's a small, predominantly white, relatively wealthy town. There's very little cultural diversity, it celebrates its history of whale poaching and it's a place that, unfortunately, many local people tend to get stuck in. It's comfortable and discouraging of the outside world, the real world. There were many pros and cons to growing up there and while I'm glad I grew up safe and sound, I'm also glad I heard the call to adventure and went out to seek it.
