What is Alocrom 1000?
Alocrom, sometimes referred to as Alodine is a Chromate Conversion Coating that offers increased corrosion protection for Aluminium Components. Silchrome offer Alocrom 1000 which produces a coating which is clear in appearance with a low electrical resistance which is often used as a base layer for paint and powder applications.
What is Alocrom and how is it used?
Although Alocrom can be used as a standalone process, it is most often used to form a foundation for paint and powder coating due to its excellent adhesion characteristics. This in turn will give the top coating an improved flexibility.
What is Alocrom 1200 coating?
ALOCROM is a cost-effective coating. ALOCROM 1200 is ideal for coating all types of aluminium and aluminium alloys including high silicon pressure die-castings. It should be used on aluminium wherever maximum corrosion resistance is required, and is suitable for articles which are to be painted or left unpainted.
What are the alternatives to Alocrom?
Poeton has invested a huge amount of R&D resource over the last 7 years evaluating and perfecting the application methods of the Alocrom alternatives, such as: Surtec 650V, Iridite NCP, Socomore TCS PACS and Lanthane. Each of these alternatives has pros and cons and none of them give the full level of protection that is present with Alocrom.
What Is Alocrom?
What is the color of Alocrom 1200?
Can you use alocrom as a foundation?

What does Alocrom 1200 do?
ALOCROM 1200 is a rapid non-electrolytic dip process which forms a protective iridescent golden coloured chromate coating on aluminium and its alloys. It gives excellent corrosion resistance to painted and unpainted aluminium surfaces. The coating is flexible, and will withstand bending and denting of surfaces.
What is the difference between alodine and Alocrom?
A. Alocrom and Alodine are the two trade names for the same product. One is the US and the other is the European.
What is Alocrom 1000?
Alocrom 1000 produces protective coatings on aluminium and its alloys without significantly changing the appearance of the aluminium surface. It is recommended where a very low surface electrical resistance is required or the aluminium is to be subsequently lacquered and so the surface must be uniformly metallic.
Can you Alocrom steel?
Its uses include general industrial work, electrical components, domestic appliances, car body parts and aircraft components. Alocrom 1200 is unaffected by steel, brass or copper inserts in the articles being processed and can be used for treating zinc and aluminium in the same bath.
What is the purpose of alodine on aluminum?
What is Alodine®? Also known as chem film or chemfilm, Alodine® is a chromate conversion coating that protects aluminum and other metals from corrosion. Related products include Iridite®, TCP-HF, and Bonderite®. The process of applying a chromate conversion coating is referred to as chromating.
Does alodine add thickness?
Aluminum chromate conversion coating/alodine produces a thin coating in the range of 0.00001-0.00004 inches (0.25-1.0 µm) in thickness. Chemical conversion coatings on aluminum are amorphous in structure with a gel-like composition hydrated with water.
How do you apply Alocrom 1200?
Brush Alocrom mixture should always be applied quickly, liberally and evenly working upwards on vertical surfaces. Do not attempt to treat very large areas at one time. A nylon brush is normally effective; other soft bristle or sponges can be used for specific purposes.
What is Iridite NCP?
Iridite NCP is a passivation process, created by immersing the target metal into an acidic solution. The solution can be adjusted for both heat and acidity and doing so will impart different properties to the aluminium.
What happens if you Anodise steel?
Anodising also provides a good base for paint and can be used as a decorative finish. This same process when applied to Iron or Carbon Steel would not be beneficial as it would create rust. This of course has the opposite effect, promoting corrosion in the underlying metal.
Can regular steel be anodized?
Steel and stainless steel can't be anodized; the process baths used to anodize aluminum would attack and dissolve steel parts.
Can you conversion coat steel?
No, chromate conversion coating is not applicable to bare steel, although steel may be zinc plated and then have a chromate conversion coating applied.

What is alodine1200?
Alodine* 1200S is a powdered chemical, used for producing paint bonding, corrosion resisting coatings on aluminium and its alloys by either spray or dip processing.

Iridite NCP is a passivation process, created by immersing the target metal into an acidic solution. The solution can be adjusted for both heat and acidity and doing so will impart different properties to the aluminium.
What is alocrom chrome?
It should be noted that Alocrom is a hexavalent chrome process that is under threat from the REACH regulations and a usage sunset date just a few years away.
What is an alodine conversion coating?
Alocrom (or Alodine in the US) is a Chromate conversion coating that is applied to aluminium alloys, which provides a level of corrosion protection. Alocrom is also good for paint adhesion and is electrically conductive. Poeton can apply the process to the MIL-DTL-5541 approval.

Can Alocrom 1200 be used for food containers?
ALOCROM 1200 should not be used for food containers.
Can anodic coating be used on aluminum?
It should be used on aluminium wherever maximum corrosion resistance is required, and is suitable for articles which are to be painted or left unpainted. It has approval for repairing damaged anodic coatings used in aircraft. Other uses include general industrial work, electrical components, domestic appliances, car body parts and aircraft components. It is unaffected by steel, brass or copper inserts in the articles being processed.
What is alocrom spray?
Alocrom is frequently specified as a pre-treatment prior to painting. Our in house state-of-the-art paint spraying facility has the capability to apply a wide range of paints, including etch primers, epoxy primers and a variety of top coats such as epoxies and polyurethanes.
What is the Alocrom 1200 process?
The Alocrom 1200 process is the main chromate conversion coating that we provide . Alocrom 1200 is marketed under the name Alodine 1200 outside of the UK and drawings calling for Alodine 1200 can be coated with Alocrom 1200 and vice versa. Alocrom 1200 has a distinctive yellow colour, due to the presence of hexavalent chromium.
Why is Alocrom 1200 yellow?
Alocrom 1200 has a distinctive yellow colour, due to the presence of hexavalent chromium. The intensity of this yellow varies from colourless to deep yellow/orange depending on the desired properies.
Does Alocrom self heal?
Alocrom exhibits a degree of self-healing to minor damage, such as small scratches. In the presence of moisture, it leaches chromium (VI), which acts as a corrosion inhibitor at the damage sites.
Is Alocrom 1200 RoHS compliant?
Alocrom 1200 is not RoHS compliant. We offer RoHS compliant alternatives to Alocrom 1200 .
Is Alochrome 1200 hexavalent?
Although Alochrome 1200 is, per my understanding, hexavalent chromium based, and therefore problematical, there are other Alodine products (and presumably Alochrome products) that do not contain hexavalent chrome. There are also similar non-hexavalent chromium aluminum surface prep chemicals from Chemetall, Macdermid, and other suppliers.
