What is Azure ExpressRoute?
Azure ExpressRoute is a service that, with the help of a connectivity provider, helps us in establishing a private connection to extend your on-premises networks to the Microsoft cloud.
What to do if you have any queries on Azure?
If you have any queries, reach out to the Azure Community !
Can Expressroute connect to Microsoft Cloud?
Our organization’s data center can be connected directly to the Microsoft cloud using point-to-point connection. ExpressRoute can provide Layer 2 or managed Layer 3 connection between our on-premises data center and the cloud.
Can you configure Expressroute on premise?
After successful deployment, you can configure your on-premises data center to the ExpressRoute created as per your requirements.
Can Expressroute be connected to on-premises?
If we have multiple circuits of ExpressRoute connected to our on-premises data centers, there is a facility to connect them and the traffic among them will be handled by Microsoft’s networks.
Does Expressroute Direct work globally?
Microsoft maintains strategically placed peering locations globally as part of its network. ExpressRoute Direct allows us to connect directly to the peering location and to the cloud.
What is the purpose of Express Route?
Express route provides layer 3 connection between the Azure cloud and the local network. Express route improves security and privacy by avoiding sensitive traffic going over the public internet.
Why is Express Route important?
Express route increases reliability due to the built-in redundancy. Express route improves security and privacy by avoiding sensitive traffic going over the public internet. Supports business Skype.
What is Azure public?
Azure public, Azure private, and Microsoft are the associated routing/peering domains in ExpressRoute circuit. For high availability, each peering is configured identically on a pair of routers (in active-active or load-sharing configuration).
Is Azure peering public?
Azure public peering (deprecated for new circuits) Some services must be offered in public IP addresses, e.g., Azure Storage, SQL databases and Websites. Connectivity to services hosted on public IP addresses, including the virtual IP addresses of cloud services, can be done privately via the public trust routing domain.
Can Azure services be hosted on public IP?
Some services must be offered in public IP addresses, e. g., Azure Storage, SQL databases and Websites. Connectivity to services hosted on public IP addresses, including the virtual IP addresses of cloud services, can be done privately via the public trust routing domain. Connection to public trust domain to user DMZ can be established and connected to all Azure services on the public IP addresses from user WAN without having to communicate via the Internet.
Can a Microsoft cloud be integrated?
The extended network can be integrated into Microsoft cloud using IPSec VPN providers. The providers above connect data centers and branch offices. To appear like any other branch, Microsoft cloud can be interconnected to WAN whose providers provide mainly managed layer three connectivity.
What is IPsec in Azure?
IPsec is an IETF standard. It encrypts data at the Internet Protocol (IP) level or Network Layer 3. You can use IPsec to encrypt an end-to-end connection between your on-premises network and your virtual network (VNET) on Azure. See other FAQs below.
Does MACsec secure the physical connection between you and Microsoft?
Yes. MACsec secures the physical connections between you and Microsoft. IPsec secures the end-to-end connection between you and your virtual networks on Azure. You can enable them independently.
Can you use VPN on Azure?
Yes. If you adopt Azure Virtual WAN you can follow these steps to encrypt the end-to-end connection. If you have regular Azure VNET you can follow these steps to establish an IPsec tunnel between Azure VPN gateway and your on-premises VPN gateway.
Does Expressroute Direct use MACsec?
No. MACsec encrypts all traffic on a physical link with a key owned by one entity (i.e. customer). Therefore, it's available on ExpressRoute Direct only.
