Where are the moulding points on LEGO bricks?
This reduces the visual impact and also the impact on surface smoothness if the brick has an “outie”. Some moulding points are now inside the bottom of the brick. Can you hide moulding marks in LEGO?
It is a challenge for LEGO builders to hide as many moulding marks as possible. Some of us are pedantic about such things, when we are taking our time to build the model. The marks can be hidden wherever a piece has rotational symmetry (order 2 for 2x4, order 4 for 2x2). Among the building criteria, a speed-build might see the moulding-mark-hiding criterion reduced in priority, or the competition might include bonus points for hiding the marks.
Do Lego bricks have injection moulding?
These are moulding marks. All LEGO bricks have one or more injection moulding points. As the bricks are removed from the mould, the machine pushes the bricks out, leaving behind the part that was adjacent to the brick; this has to be discarded or ideally recycled as it is valuable plastic. Where the moulding point is broken, it leaves a moulding mark. Like human belly-buttons, LEGO bricks can have an “inny” or an “outie” but ideally the marks are as small as possible. This is a subtlety of injection moulding design.
