lbs. Choice™ R421A is a unique non-ozone depleting replacement for R22. Usable with Mineral, AB, or POE oils, this refrigerant can be used in air conditioning, medium and high temperature residential, commercial, and industrial refrigeration applications.

Is R421A the same as R-22?

R-421A has a saturation pressure-temperature dependence that is nearly identical to R-22, with a difference of less than 1% for most of the temperature range of interest.

What refrigerant does R-421A replace?

R-22 refrigerantChoice™ R-421A is a non-ozone depleting, long term replacement for R-22 refrigerant. Requires no modification to AC / HP systems and is compatible with MO, AB, or POE lubricants. The only 2 component blend to replace R-22 and is within 1% of R-22 temperature / pressures.

Can I replace R-22 with R421A?

No unit oil change required, unlike other R-22 alternatives. With no measurable pressure difference to R-22, retrofitting with R-421A is simple and familiar. With millions of units successfully retrofitted, R-421A is The Easy Choice for contractors.

Is R421A a good refrigerant?

Less components mean less fragmentation at high temperatures and the patented lubricant additive guarantee oil return to the compressor without the use of any Hydrocarbons. This last important fact makes R421a from Choice Refrigerant the safest product for any system that works with R22.

What is 421A refrigerant used for?

Used for some medium and most low temperature refrigeration applications. It is a non-ozone depleting refrigerant blend containing R-125 and R-143a.

How much does 421A refrigerant cost?

Regular Price: $485.99 R-421A is a drop-in replacement for R22 systems.

What is the best refrigerant to replace R-22?

The best replacement for R-22 Freon is usually R-407c. It has a very low loss in capacity (0 – 5%) relative to R-22 and is less expensive than many other R-22 replacement refrigerants. If a system has R22 in it already you cannot use a replacement refrigerant to simply add to the R22.

What happens if you put 410a in a R-22 system?

You cannot just switch refrigerants because R410-A and R-22 have different chemical properties. R410-A operates at a higher pressure. If you put R410-A into an R-22 system, the parts will rupture due to the increased force.

Is R-22 refrigerant still available?

Is R22 refrigerant still available? R22 is no longer produced or imported into the United States, but it still exists inside some older HVAC units. If your unit uses R22 and runs out, HVAC technicians may still have access to the existing recycled or recovered R22 supply and can service your unit as normal.

What will R410A be replaced with?

RS-53 (R470A) is a new non-flammable Drop-in replacement for R410A with a low Global Warming Potential (GWP) less than half that of R410A. RS-53 (R470A) has a similar thermodynamic performance to R410A with matching energy efficiency and cooling capacity.

Is r421a flammable?

This substance is not flammable in air at temperatures up to 100ºC (212ºF) at atmospheric pressure. However, mixtures of this substance with high concentrations of air at elevated pressure and/or temperature can become combustible in the presence of an ignition source.

Why is R 22 being phased out?

Because R-22 depletes the ozone layer, production and import was further limited in 2010. In 2020, R-22 will no longer be produced or imported. After 2020, only recovered, recycled, or reclaimed supplies of R-22 will be available. The production (not use) of R-22 is being phased out.

Why is refrigerant R-12 being phased out?

This refrigerant was phased out due to it's Ozone Depletion Potential or ODP. The short version of what happened here is that when R-12 was vented or released into the atmosphere it would not break down as it made it's way up to the stratosphere.

What is the new replacement for R22?

The best replacement for R-22 Freon is usually R-407c. It has a very low loss in capacity (0 – 5%) relative to R-22 and is less expensive than many other R-22 replacement refrigerants. If a system has R22 in it already you cannot use a replacement refrigerant to simply add to the R22.

What is the new refrigerant replacing 410A?

The leading replacement for R-410A refrigerant is a pure, single component refrigerant called R-32, which has one-third the global warming potential of R‑410A. Some products with this next generation refrigerant have already been introduced in the United States.

What is the best replacement for R410A?

R452B is the closest direct equivalent to R410A in terms of capacity and efficiency. R454B offers slightly lower capacity, but has the benefit of even lower GWP. Both refrigerants allow the fastest conversion since R410A.

What is the R-421A?

Available in 12lb and 25lb cylinders, Choice R-421A is designed to run in air-conditioning, and mid-to high-temp applications.

How many refrigerant components are in R-421A?

This is why we designed R-421A to have only 2 refrigerant components and the lowest temperature glide of the leading R-22 alternatives.

Is there a pressure difference between R-22 and R-421A?

With no measur able pressure difference to R-22, retrofitting with R-421A is simple and familiar.

Does the R-22 need an oil change?

No unit oil change required, unlike other R-22 alternatives. With no measurable pressure difference to R-22, retrofitting with R-421A is simple and familiar. A blend of only 2 refrigerants, R-421A exhibits consistent box temperatures.

Why use R410A?

To gain the efficiency, performance and environmental benefits of R410a refrigerant, you will need to install a new system that is designed to use the refrigerant due to its higher pressures. If your air conditioner or heat pump is nearing the end of its life, the efficiency of the R410a refrigerant system might be a good reason to replace your ...

What SEER is 410A?

R-410A systems will start at a SEER 13/14 (Which is a minimum requirement as of 2015) with ultra high efficiency systems will be 20 SEER or more.

What is the top end efficiency of a R-22?

Most R-22 systems have a top end efficiency of 13/14 SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio). I have heard you can reach 18 SEER but have never seen one Many of older R-22 systems may have an efficiency of 9 SEER or less.

Is HCFC-22 reclaimed?

In 2020 ( just 3 years away) there will be no production or importing of HCFC-142b and HCFC-22, so all that will be available is what is reclaimed or recycle d. There is other reasons to move on and that is efficiency. The newer R-410A refrigerant is a more efficient refrigerant.

Is an HVAC system cheap?

HVAC systems are not cheap and making a decision to repair an older system versus replacement has many varying factors.

Can you charge a R22 without an oil change?

With a change to POE oil and charging with refrigerant: 407C, 421A or 1/2 410A+1/2 134a (but cross charge is against EPA regs), the R22 system will chug along similarly, but this is so 2000's. The fad in 2010's is some patented blends with a tiny bit of hydrocarbon added so you can "gas and go" without a full oil change.

How much less amp draw does a heat pump use?

Rooftops and heat pumps in the cooling mode actually produced virtually the same temp supply within 2 deg farenheit and were using about 10% less on amp draw.

Is there a designer refrigerant in the 4xx series?

There are a lot of designer refrigerants in the 4xx series. Check out my thread here:

Do you add hydrocarbons to refrigeration?

With refrigeration I do add some hydrocarbons because of my generous pipe sizing but they seem to return the MO well.

Should zombie accounts be deleted?

There are certainly a lot of zombie accounts here that should be deleted . I see quite a few posts from accounts registered as early as 2008 making their first few posts now. My crystal ball tells me they're purchased/hacked zombie accounts used by search engine marketing contractors or they've been created and shelved with plans of such use.

Is a chiller oversized?

I have only been involved with a chiller and a few rooftops and heatpump conversions. The chiller operates normally at present and is oversized anyways so its tough to get a read on it accurately however by comparing past data logs and new ones operating since the change out it is virtually the same.
