UCI is a pretty amazing school, but it’s not for everyone so choose a school that is best for yourself academically and financially. Try talking to current students! They would love to answer any questions you have and share their experiences. Take a tour of the school! Whether it’s a campus guided tour or just a friend taking you around, you can get a feel of the campus and see if you see yourself there. And if you end up choosing a school you don’t like, then don’t worry! You can always transfer to a different school. How many students are in a lecture at UC?
Not sure if this is unique to the UC system, but most classes have a lecture with 400+ students and smaller discussion sections of around 30 where you can ask questions and understand the material better under the direction of a TA. These are super helpful because there are activities that reinforce concepts from lecture and give you extra help.

Food choices include Blaze, Chipotle, Taco Bell, In-n-Out, Yogurtland, Cha, ramen, sushi, Peet’s Coffee, just to name a few! Dunkin Donuts is also opening soon so keep an eye out for that.

Do I regret going to UC Irvine? The answer right now is no. My best experiences have come from this school, and I’ve met great and awesome people along the way. But I had to work a great amount to get to this point.

1. Distance from point A (my house) to point B (Irvine)
This was the one thing I disliked about UCI when I first decided to go there. People would ask me what I thought about Irvine and I would say, “I love everything about it! I just wish I could be farther away from home.” But as time passed, my idea of independence and maturity shifted and I no longer continued to associate distance with growing up.

4. Finding balance
Remember that balance thing I was talking about before? The part about independence verses dependence? Well Irvine is where I know I can be happy practicing these skills. I can continue to mature into adulthood in a safe place with people similar to myself and people who are different.
5. Naps in the park are vital to my serenity
This may seem kind of funny, but I literally took a nap in the park during day two of Freshman Orientation. I think that nature is a very important part of feeling connected to the world, other people, and yourself.
6. I get the opportunity to cheer on new teams
Without the sparkle and shine of a college football team, UCI gives me a greater opportunity and heavy encouragement to support their wide variety of Division 1 sports.
7. I simply love the business school
I am a Business Administration major, and when I found out I got into the Paul Merage School of Business, my eyes filled with tears and my legs felt weak. Dramatic, I know, but also honest! All of Irvine’s schools are prestigious and a real privilege to be a part of.
8. I know that I am never alone
At orientation, I was nervous about making friends and worrying about first impressions. Luckily, I knew a few people going to the two day orientation, but it was only natural that I began to doubt myself anyway.
