What is the standard size?
It's a good question, and you won't be the first to ask it. The standard size for a new scaffold board is a thickness of 38mm, a width of 225mm, and lengths going up to 3.9m (13ft). As timber goes, scaffold boards are fairly "chunky", which is what gives them a wonderfully rustic and industrial aesthetic and feel.
Will recycled scaffold boards be the right size for my project?
The most important thing of course is to have a good measure up! It sounds obvious, but we've all ordered something without checking sizes, only to find it's too big or small once it arrives. Scaffold boards are ideal for all sorts of projects, from shelves and tables, to flooring and cladding, but it's essential to make sure that the size of the board is going to work for the project in mind. If you're looking at making them in to shelving, then the thickness of the board at 38mm is wider than a lot of other standard shelving, so just make sure you've got suitable brackets. For tables, desks and coffee tables you again need to allow for the weight of the scaffold boards and make sure that the legs you have in mind will be strong enough. Scaffolding Width

What is a scaffold board?
Scaffold boards (also called scaffold planks, walkboards, and OSHA boards) are an extremely important component to your scaffolding system as they carry your workers and the weight of your materials. Your boards must meet strict OSHA standards before they can be used on your project. Not just any board will do.
How long should a scaffolding board be?
OSHA requires at least 6” of lap on each side of the scaffolding frames. See 1926.451 (b) (4). This means that your scaffold boards must be at least 1’ longer than the span between the frames. When creating a long platform connecting multiple spans of frames, the board overlap must not be less than 12 inches unless the boards or platforms are nailed together or otherwise secured to prevent movement. See 1926.451 (b) (7). This means that long platforms must be built with boards that span 2’ longer than the distance between the frames.
What is LVL scaffolding?
LVL stands for laminated veneer lumber and contain numerous thin layers of wood that are laminated together by glue. The wood grain on each layer should face opposite directions for maximum strength. The advantage of these boards is that they cost less than the solid lumber boards, they are very uniform (no knots or defects), and you don’t have to worry about the boards splitting on the ends. The disadvantage to these boards is they tend to warp more than the solid sawn boards when exposed to moisture. Load limits on scaffolding boards are determined by how much they deflect when weight is applied to them. A scaffolding board must not deflect more than 1/60th of its span between supports 29 CFR 1926.451 (f) (16). Below is the maximum deflection allowed between spans of different lengths:
How much weight can you put on a 7' deck?
This limitation makes a good case for using manufactured boards/platforms (such as aluminum decks instead of the 2X10 nominal boards for heavy-duty applications. We sell both steel and aluminum 7′ and 10′ platforms that are rated for both 50 lbs/sq. ft. and 75 lbs/sq ft. Another solution would be to double your planks across the spans that will be receiving cubes of brick or block. When you are using outriggers, the weight of your workers on the outrigger platforms will not be applied to the main platform.

They are obviously a lot lighter than timber and can be used internally and externally.
