What do you think about disappearing acts?
The problem with Disappearing Acts is that it moved too fast. And there is hardly any chemistry between Sanaa Lathan and Wesley Snipes. Sanaa is great as Zora. But Wesley is hardly believable as Franklin. There were a gazillion other black actors out there that would've portrayed the character more true to life than Wesley Snipes.
What makes Disappearing Acts a romantic comedy?
Underneath the wisecracks, the idiotic behavior, and the foolish misunderstandings that qualify McMillan’s novel as a romantic comedy there is a serious exploration of the nature of human relationships. It is never easy for one person to love another; when two people differ as much as the lovers in Disappearing Acts, it is particularly difficult.

Who voices the disappearing acts?
Disappearing Acts is written as a series of monologues, some of them voiced by Zora and some by Franklin. The characters are so distinct that after the first two sections, McMillan does not even bother to head her chapters with the name of the speaker. Interestingly, she felt so strongly about this dual point of view that she changed publishers rather than change the structure of her book. When her editors pressured her to tell the entire story through Franklin’s eyes, McMillan switched to another publisher. Obviously, she felt that both viewpoints were essential to her story. From the enthusiasm with which critics and readers have received Disappearing Acts, it is clear that McMillan’s decision was the right one.
Is Disappearing Acts a romance?
Disappearing Acts has been called an urban romance. It is, in essence, simply another New York City love story, as funny as the best works of Neil Simon. Underneath the wisecracks, the idiotic behavior, and the foolish misunderstandings that qualify McMillan’s novel as a romantic comedy there is a serious exploration of the nature of human relationships.
