All 4 doses of VIVOTIF should be taken at least 1 week before traveling. Swallow 1 capsule about 1 hour before a meal with a cold or lukewarm drink. It doesn't matter what time you take your capsule, as long as it's at least 1 hour before a meal1: Swallow capsule whole, don't chew or break.

The complete immunization schedule for VIVOTIF consists of 4 capsules with 1 capsule taken on alternate days (eg, days 1, 3, 5, and 7).

What happens if I take Vivotif with food?

The capsules have a special coating to protect the contents from stomach acid. Chewing destroys this coating and then the capsules will not work. Take VIVOTIF® Oral on an empty stomach, 1 hour before food. Food can interfere with the absorption of VIVOTIF® Oral.
