Skilled artisans transform raw brass to beautiful hardware through an age old and time-tested technique known as heat forging – pounding hot metal into a specially made die. In contrast to the simpler forging technique known as casting, heat forging requires more intensive work and careful attention to detail, but it produces stronger, heavier products.

What grade stainless steel does Baldwin use?
Baldwin uses 304 Grade Stainless on all its Stainless Steel products including levers, knobs, and roses. Stainless products are noted with an ‘S’ after the style number. While there are a few products that are offered with either a brass or steel substrate, most styles are exclusive to one or the other.
What is Baldwin brass?
Solid forged brass material is used throughout the traditional Baldwin line of entrance sets, knobs, levers, and deadbolts; Baldwin Prestige uses solid forged brass for the entrance sets and other solid material for knobs and levers. Both the traditional and Prestige lines offer a limited lifetime mechanical warranty.
Does Baldwin have a warning?
Baldwin is a global supplier of hardware and therefore must put the warning in all applicable products in order to be sure of complying with the stringent California law. Only certain Baldwin living finish products or products containing lead crystal are required to carry the notice.
Can you use hinge stops on Baldwin hinges?
Hinge stops cannot be used with Baldwin hinges because the tips are not attached to the pin. This floating pin design allows us to offer a variety of different styles of hinge tips but unfortunately do not allow the use of hinge stops.

Does Baldwin have a warranty on archetypes?
The mechanical warranty offered on Archetypes products will be honored under the Baldwin Archetypes Limited Warranty policy. No finish warranty is offered on Baldwin Archetypes products, because they are living finishes which are designed to age and improve over time.
